What a mess. It is critical that the state figures out a way to expeditiously shut down chronically under performing schools like Gulf Shores if the movement is to expand in both quality and quantity.

Happy trails to a super colleague

It is with a heavy heart and much admiration that we wish Ginny Blankenship happy trails as she departs CSPI after putting in some truly incredible work here. Ginny was responsible for providing the rich policy and research content we offer on charterschoolpolicy.org, and will be missed a great deal. Best of luck in your new gig, Ginny, and come back to Austin soon!

Legislative Update: Texas Charter Bill Done

The charter school language originally included in SB 4 has been killed yet again.

Legislative Update: Texas Charter Bill Dealt a Blow

HB 2237 (see history here) was just passed along to a conference committee, but not before Rep. Harold Dutton asked House Public Education Committee Chairman Eissler if it was his intention to strip the bill of the language pertaining to charter schools (formerly SB 4). His answer: "Yes."

 

House conference committee members include: Eissler (chair), Miles, Hochberg, Patrick, and Krusee.
